Sell Your Used Textbooks - New Mobile Apps!
The Bookstore buys used textbooks year round at the refund window outside the main store. You can check what we’re buying and current prices in person, or by using our web site at Used Books
If we don’t need the book because it is not on a current course, we are linked to over 25 Canadian schools and also US wholesalers who may be buying the book. Our instant quote system provides the best price from all of these markets. We also host a free buy and sell network on our web site to allow you to sell directly to other students.
We have mobile applications on the Android marketplace and the Apple AppStore to provide instant quotes!
Sell your used textbooks to the York University Bookstore using this instant price quote app! It allows you to scan the barcodes of books that you'd like to sell using your phone's camera. You'll find out instantly how much we'll pay you for your used books. Please note: This application is able to use your camera to scan barcodes, however the camera on IPod Touch doesn't have the resolution to capture barcodes reliably. But, you can always type in your ISBN.
You can download it from the AppStore on your IPhones, or visit this url: itunes.apple.com
The app is available in the Android Market (on Android Phones) or at this url: market.android.com

Textbook Tax Credit Eligibility - 2011-12
A note about tax credits in Ontario. Refer to the following websites for information. The key point is proof of purchase, or book receipts, are not required for these tax credits for textbooks.
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/rtrn/cmpltng/ddctns/Ins300-350/323/txtbk-eng.html
www.hrblock.ca/yours_life/student_tax_breaks.asp#6
The site states: "Post-secondary students will benefit from a new non-refundable tax credit for textbooks that will take effect for the 2010 taxation year. The amount on which the credit is based will be calculated as:
- $65 for each month the student qualifies for the full-time education amount: and
- $20 for each month the student qualifies for the part-time education amount.
Proof that textbooks have actually been purchased is not required."
There is no need to provide duplicate book sales receipts in order for students to receive their textbook credit. Students reeive a T2202 which provides all the required information for the individual to prepare their taxes. The tax form takes care of the actual credit.
Consult the Canada Revenue Agency website or a tax professional for more information on other tax credits, deductions, and benefits to post secondary students.
